This fall we are beginning a Wednesday evening, 6:30 p.m. Evening Prayer (EP)worship service. This
sixty-minute time of worship will be structured so that you
may drop in and leave at any time. The service will be
neither “traditional” nor "contemporary,” but will be an
eclectic mix of elements each week.
We hope that this service will serve as an addition to your
Sunday morning worship experience, or as a substitute when
you are unable to attend worship on Sundays.
“What should I
expect if I drop in for the new Evening Prayer
(EP) service?”
EP be a 60-minute service, with three
20-minute segments;
each 20-minute segment will include
several elements, e.g. Scripture, music and teaching;
the flow will be more circular and less linear;
each segment will be connected to the
other segments by the evening’s theme;
the weekly themes will follow the
Confirmation schedule;
when Confirmation isn’t in session,
the themes will likely follow the lectionary texts from
the previous Sunday;
the worship environment will
encourage people to drop in and leave at any time;
there will be traditional and
non-traditional elements throughout the service;
Holy Communion will be offered some
weeks, but not on a weekly basis;
various modes of communication will
be employed to reach different learning styles;
participation will be encouraged, but
not required;
the Fellowship Room will be the
worship space from September through November ’09,
allowing for flexibility and intimacy; Advent services
will be held in the sanctuary;
lay leadership will be key, and youth
will be encouraged to share their gifts;
the service will include people who
do not worship together regularly, creating an increased
sense of community;
the service will be a supplement to
Sunday worship for some, and a substitute for others.
