By encouraging its
members to follow their passions when creating or becoming involved
in mission outreach, a local church is being recognized by
Lutheran
Social Services of Illinois (LSSI). On Sunday, January 28, 2007 Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Hinsdale received the 2006 Ministry of Hope Award
from the Rev. Dr. Frederick Aigner, LSSI president.
This award is presented annually to one
congregation in each of the three Illinois ELCA synods to recognize
an outstanding ELCA congregation that provides leadership in
supporting the ministry of LSSI and other ministries in the
community.
Redeemer
Lutheran is being recognized for its congregation’s engagement in a
variety of ministries, including hosting a PADS site in DuPage
County on Saturday evenings in the summer. Its members also reach
out to people in need in the community through collecting “dress for
success” clothing suitable for job interviews and sending
mini-quilts to a Chicago hospital for newborns – as well as more
than 200 quilts annually for Lutheran World Relief. The church is
also active in advocacy through its Social Justice Task Force, with
a focus on easing world hunger and stopping the genocide in Darfur.
